More than 4,000 scientists from around the world have called on the Israeli government to urgently end the ongoing “man-made humanitarian crisis” in Gaza, Palestine. The call was made in a joint statement. The scientists who signed the statement include 14 Nobel laureates and 5 Fields Medal-winning mathematicians.

We are deeply concerned about the continuing humanitarian crisis in Gaza. We cannot accept the creation of a famine situation by creating an artificial food crisis.”

The statement was sent to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the country’s President Isaac Herzog and Israel’s UN Ambassador Danny Danon.

The statement added, “We are appalled by the forced closure of medical facilities for the people of Gaza, the lack of access to basic education for children, the systematic destruction of civilian infrastructure, including universities, and the blatant disregard for the rights, welfare, and lives of ordinary people.”

The scientists called on the Israeli government to urgently end this humanitarian crisis. The signatories to the statement include Nobel laureates from the Netherlands, the United States, the United Kingdom, Japan, and Italy. They are theoretical physicists Gerard Hooft and David Pulitzer, mathematician Roger Penrose, and physicists Takaki Kajita and Giorgio Parisi.

The statement also condemned the attack on Israel by the Palestinian independence armed group Hamas in October 2023 and the inhuman treatment of hostages. At the same time, it called on Hamas to immediately release the hostages.

The statement said that the current situation is part of a complex chain of events, and that thousands of innocent people have been killed in Gaza. At least 1,000 of these are reported to be children under the age of one. These incidents have been condemned as horrific acts. The statement said that the current situation is part of a complex chain of events, adding that more than 10,000 innocent people have been killed in Gaza, including nearly 1,000 children under the age of one. It condemned these incidents as heinous acts.

The statement further said that the horrific acts of torture against civilians cannot be justified in any way. Urgent action must be taken now to prevent this humanitarian catastrophe.
