At least 12 people have been killed and 30 others wounded in a US airstrike in Yemen's capital, Sanaa, the Houthi rebels said early Monday (April 21). Al Jazeera's Central Command did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the attack.

The Qatar-based media outlet also reported that the strikes targeted the Attan area, a sanitation project in Asir province, the Furwah neighborhood and a busy market in Shob district. The areas have been under rebel control since 2014.

Last week, at least 74 people were killed and 171 injured in a US airstrike on Yemen's Ras Issa oil port. In retaliation, the Houthis launched a missile attack on Israel's main and largest international airport, Ben Gurion International Airport, on April 18. Not only Ben Gurion Airport; The Houthi group also launched missile attacks targeting US aircraft carriers patrolling the Red Sea and Arabian Sea on that day. It also claimed to have shot down a US MQ-9 drone.

In a statement after the attack, Houthi spokesman Yahya Sari said, “If the US continues the attacks, the number of counterattacks, clashes and clashes will increase, not decrease.”

The Houthis have been attacking ships traveling through the Red and Arabian Seas, the Bab al-Mandab Strait and the Gulf of Aden since November 2023 in solidarity with the Palestinians oppressed by the Israeli aggression in the Gaza Strip.

For this reason, US President Donald Trump ordered “strong military action” against the Houthis in mid-March and later threatened to completely eliminate them.

However, the Houthis stopped the attacks after a ceasefire was announced between Israel and the Palestinian resistance group Hamas in Gaza in January. But last month, the group resumed attacks when Israeli forces resumed their massacre in the Gaza Strip, violating the ceasefire agreement.
